About
The centre opened its doors on 1 May 2026 after an extension of more than 80 square metres, and its classic room, De Slager van Oldemarkt, received a major upgrade at the same time. Around it sits a wide mix: a mystery game, The Escape Battle, Farmers Quest, an exploding-bomb game, mini escapes, VR dinner and drinks games, VR sports, canoe and SUP-based aqua games and the outdoor AR trail Oldemarkt Uncovered. It was developed by Wilco Verschuren, one of the co-founders of the large-group game Prison Break Paasloo, and is part of WILCAS recreatie.
The games
8 games to choose from
Gamescape Oldemarkt, opened in May 2026 in the Weerribben-Wieden area, gathers more than fifteen escape, VR and AR outdoor games under one roof. Its anchor is De Slager van Oldemarkt (The Butcher of Oldemarkt), an old-fashioned escape room that has run since 2016 and was upgraded for its tenth anniversary. Around it are the mini escapes Talents of Sports and Sound of Music, a Mystery Game, the explosive-defusing Exploding Game, VR escape and sport games, and the head-to-head Escape Battle.

The experience
The atmosphere and the groups this venue has in mind.
Atmosphere
The Butcher keeps things deliberately old-school, with a balance of cleverness, knowledge and dexterity under time pressure in a tense and sometimes frightening mood. The mini escapes are 25-minute dark-room sprints, and the large-group games bring a Who-Is-the-Mole or competition feel.
Who it suits
Experienced escapers looking for a classic scary room, plus company outings and groups from 2 to 200 who want a day of games. The Butcher takes two to seven players, with a double version for 8 to 24, and the Escape Battle suits friends or colleagues splitting into rival teams.
