About
Each space has its own theme: the escape rooms range from a tense Handmaid's Tale-inspired game to a shadowy pirate adventure, the glow-in-the-dark mini golf arena is set in a jungle and the lasergame arena has a science-fiction look. VR escape games, a private karaoke studio, pool tables, arcade machines, bingo events, a murder-mystery dinner with an actor and pub-quiz dinners complete the line-up. Between games, groups gather in the restaurant on Drachten's furniture boulevard, which seats 150 for lunch, dinner and cocktails, and draws visitors from Groningen, Leeuwarden and Heerenveen.
The games
6 games to choose from
Level XL, a restaurant and indoor entertainment centre on Drachten's furniture boulevard, runs five escape rooms in two kinds. The three big rooms last up to an hour: La Casa de Papel, a break-in at a Spanish bank vault; De Schuilkelder van Pablo Escobar, a bunker built around the venue itself; and The Handmaid's Tale, a 75-minute dystopian escape with actors for ages 14 and up. The two 'flashcaperooms', Piraten (in the dark) and De Elfstedentocht, give you just 15 minutes and no hints, and there is also a VR escape game, La Casa di Dinero.

The experience
The atmosphere and the groups this venue has in mind.
Atmosphere
Themed rooms sit alongside laser gaming, glow-in-the-dark mini golf, karaoke, bingo and a 150-seat restaurant and cocktail lounge, so the escape rooms are one course in a bigger evening. A control room stays in contact with each team and the venue says its rooms are fully safe.
Who it suits
Larger groups and company outings above all, with the big rooms recommended from four players and combination discounts for several activities. Pirate and Elfstedentocht rooms suit pairs, first dates and families with children from ten, while The Handmaid's Tale is best for older teens and adults who can handle suspense.
Good to know
Intensity, accessibility, booking and facilities, as the venue lists them.
The Handmaid's Tale is played with actors and can be tense, and players need to move freely. Piraten takes place in the dark with distant pirate sounds, and the flash rooms put heavy time pressure on you.
Shown only where the venue confirms it. A feature missing here is not confirmed either way.
La Casa de Papel and De Schuilkelder van Pablo Escobar are described as playable by wheelchair users.
The big rooms can only be booked online and are priced per person with a minimum of four players, while flash rooms take two to four players. Guests arrive about 20 minutes early for the big rooms and 10 for the flash rooms. Dinner combinations and group discounts for two or three activities are available.
