About

About Escape the Gate

Players descend a narrow spiral staircase to a cell with metre-and-a-half-thick walls and a heavy wooden barred door, in a tower where people were held awaiting sentence for some 450 years. Once the door locks, two to five players have 60 minutes to solve puzzles drawn from the history of the gate and its former inmates. The gate was built around 1350 as part of the stone town wall, lost its defensive role when the fortress expanded in 1484 and served as a prison until about 1925. The game is intended for ages 16 and up, with curious children from nine joining under supervision, and can be combined with a guided tour of the gate.

1 game to choose from

Escape the Gate has a single game, De Vergeten Cel (The Forgotten Cell), played in the medieval Gevangenpoort tower where prisoners awaited sentencing for 450 years. After descending a narrow spiral staircase to a cell behind a heavy wooden barred door, teams of two to five have exactly 60 minutes to solve riddles and puzzles about the gate's history and former inhabitants and find their way back to daylight.
